Painting with a big brush and lots of paint
One Ton Retirement-JR Monks

One Ton Retirement Original Oil by JR Monks
Near Cripple Creek Colorado, across the mountain, is the quiet little town of Victor. I paint there often as it is packed with historical mining relics and small town charm. One day while roaming the streets I came across this old one ton mining ore cart. There it sat nestled into some blooming flowers-peaceful and serene. I had to paint it, but all I had was one small canvas. I really enjoyed capturing the scene and came to appreciate the life that ore cart had lived as my eyes scanned the various workings of this Colorado legend.
Later, a visitor to my studio saw the painting and told me it reminded him of how retirement should be. Well I guess so.
We create to make better understandings of the world around us, and ultimately make our world matter.
