The Family Brand-the signature of JR Monks

Iron in the fire-the desire to create burns within me
My Dad purchased the Quarter Circle JM brand many years ago, 50+ years ago. When I was a child I understood the importance of a brand, it signaled ownership. Even as a very small child I was involved in working the cattle which included branding.
As time passed I also came to understand the brand stood for much more than ownership, it symbolized integrity, hard work, and pride. As a young artist, around the age of 4 I began hanging my art on the refrigerator with magnets. I always signed my work with our brand, it was simple and it was special. Family, friends and Dad's business associates would purchase my work from the family kitchen refridgerator. I was especially proud of selling a piece to the State Vetrenarian who visited our ranch one time.
Now, I continue to use the Quarter Circle JM for my painting signature. A couple of weeks ago we worked our calves, the branding box was red hot and I asked my wife to take a picture of the irons literally in the fire. It is a haunting, nostalgic image and it represents all I have become and my continued fire for improving as an artist.
When someone purchases my work a new bond of friendship is formed and we ride together for the same brand.
Thank you all for taking this journey with me.
