Painting with a big brush and lots of paint
Sometimes the story about the sale is better than the sale!

Pikes Peak March 8th- Plein Air
I recently sold a painting through the Squash Blossom Gallery, and while I don't ask the name of the patrons I do like to know as much as possible about the sale, why the individual purchased the painting etc. I guess it is like wanting to know a little about who is taking your daughter out on a date.
The stories vary, but I wanted to share this one with everyone because it was pretty neat. A couple walks in the gallery and browses looking over several works. The couple recently transferred to the Colorado Springs area and were out and about gallery hopping. My painting, Pike Peak March 8th caught their eye. The husband decided to play it off and not pursue the purchase while secretly he told the Gallery employee he would buy the painting but would like to come back and surprise his wife. He also asked if a bow could be placed on the frame so that when they returned she would be surprised!
I'm not sure who is more surprised the man's wife or me. I am always so humbled when somebody spends hard earned money on my art. I want everyone who purchases my art to know how much it means to me, and how their stories inspire me to paint. We all collect art for a huge number of reasons, my wife and I collect because of a shared interest in the outdoors, watercolors, and strong composition and design. The feeling you get when you walk into a gallery and a piece speaks to you strong enough to purchase it- well it is a very emotional and satisfying experience.
Sometimes you need to reflect on how fortunate you are, and I know that being able to create art and be a part of somebody else's story is always worthy of a thank you. So to all my friends, family, gallery partners, and patrons, I thank you for continuing to support me and allowing me to share in your story.
We create to make better understandings of the world around us, and ultimately make our world matter.
