Painting with a big brush and lots of paint
Breathing out again-A new 36x48" oil by JR Monks

A new 36x48" oil by JR Monks
I recently discovered a musician, and is often the case I found some really relevant statements by this musician about painting. He said that an artist can only breathe so much creativity out into the world before you have to take a deep breath.
The thing that resonated with me is that I often have to step away and do some drawing, or go on a research trip before I am ready to take on another large canvas. After doing a lot of reading, and looking at art, and making tons of sketches while in southeastern Utah I am ready to exhale. Today I started a 36x48" canvas of a landscape set against the stage of late light. I designed the sky to be the dominate element-specifically where the sky meets the edge the mountains.
I am dizzy right now because I haven't taken in a breath since I started, but the adrenaline, excitement, and thrill of painting will keep me alive.
I attached a snapshot of this one in progress-no title yet.
