Painting with a big brush and lots of paint
"Cloudburst at Kissing Camels" a new watercolor by JR Monks

New watercolor by JR Monks
My recent watercolor, "Cloudburst at Kissing Camel" will be delivered to the Squash Blossom Gallery today. I am excited to share this large, full sheet watercolor with all of you. This painting was inspired by some small field paintings I completed on location in the Garden of the Gods, Colorado Springs Colorado.
Since my earliest childhood the big Colorado skies have captured my imagination. The sky looking west from my families farm and ranch is like watching a play. The clouds are the actors. Sometimes the drama is set to thunder and rumbling cut by flashes and bolts of lightning. Such was the case as I sat on a rock in the Garden of the Gods and watched a sudden storm materialize over Pikes Peak. I captured the scene just prior to a cloud burst and a drenching rain .
Moments like these are pure magic. I hope you all can smell the rain in the air!
Thank you for taking the journey with me.
