Painting with a big brush and lots of paint
December Featured Art by JR Monks- "Fall Below and Winter Above"

Fall Below and Winter Above by JR Monks
I am really excited to get back into the studio and work on some ideas I captured earlier this fall. Often I like to start with small studies to work out these ideas, and then scale the more successful miniatures into larger more ambitious works. "Fall Below and Winter Above" is one such endeavor. The whole idea started with this small field sketch, 6x8" and morphed into several other studies.
The next step is to take the study and work it up to a larger version maybe 18x24" or larger. My intention will be to maintain the direct approach of the study, color, value, and brushstrokes in the larger work. An important part of my art is to paint in a similar fashion in the studio as I do in the filed-which is much easier than it sounds.
I hope you enjoy looking at this little mini, it is available for sale, framed and ready to go for the Holidays.

Thank you for coming along and best wishes!
